Against all Odds; Investing in Success

An investment in Mountain State Centers for Independent Living is an investment in success for people with disabilities in West Virginia.

Tim was diagnosed at an early age with a developmental learning disability. He attended school, but due to his disability he did not get the education he needed to graduate from high school.

Tim came to the Employment Services Division (ESD) of Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) as a referral from the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS) because he wanted a job.

After successfully completing job readiness training at ESD, Tim is now gainfully employed at Wendy's. He is happy to do whatever needs to be done including unloading trucks, sweeping the lot or working extra hours on Saturday - and you never hear him complain.

During his free time, when Tim is not volunteering at MTSTCIL to help others with disabilities, he is at the public library working with tutors to learn how to read.

Without his ESD training and the supports of MTSTCIL, he could be one of the people we see living on the streets. Instead, Tim is a tax paying citizen.

We need your support to continue to provide job readiness training for people with disabilities.

Through the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS), if a person with a disability is identified as being in need of further training before he or she can be employed, they are often referred to the Employment Services Division (ESD) at Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) for further assessment and training. ESD also provides job training coaches to work with the person when hired.
