I graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Counseling and am a Community Resource Advocate in our Huntington office. I was a mentor with the HOST (Help One Child Succeed) Program at Peyton Elementary School for nine years. I also helped with the Teams for West Virginia, CAPS (Child Assault Prevention) Program for two years. I have been involved with numerous 5k and 10k walks/runs for Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, and the Heart Association. I have a significant hearing loss in one ear, and have an interest in sign language. I have taken basic sign language classes, and am now teaching basic sign language at the center.
In addition to teaching skills training classes and working with consumers on a one - on - one basis, I spend a lot of time serving as the liaison to other agencies on behalf of the center. I represent the center on several committees and groups. I encourage consumers to attend with me, so they can also get involved in outside activities.
If you are an agency calling for a contact because you have a consumer that needs services, you will need to provide me with their name, address, phone number, and social security number, as well as some background on the consumer and why you are referring them to the center.
I am also the liaison for the Huntington area WVATS (West Virginia Assisted Technology) Program. This area covers Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln, and Mason counties. If you need information on assistive devices or equipment, I may be able to assist you through our loan closet or computer database. We may have items you can try for a period of time to see if it is right for your needs. If after training the equipment we will assist you in finding a funding source to help you purchase the item if you cannot purchase it yourself. We also have equipment we can loan you until your own equipment is available. The items range from utensils for eating, magnifiers to help you read, canes, alarm clocks and many more.
I am also the Nursing Home Transition Specialist for the Huntington Office. When someone has been placed in a nursing home, I can provide them with information and help them seek housing and services to live more independently in the community.
You can reach me in the Huntington office at 304-525-3324 from 9:00 am - 5:15 pm Monday through Friday, or send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
