Sharon Porter of South Point, Ohio, coordinator of office affairs at Mountain State Centers for Independent Living, passed away after a seven-year battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.
Sharon always had a smile on her face, an infectious laugh, and a can do attitude here at Mountain State Centers for Independent Living. She was always interested in learning something new and open to new experiences.
Anne Weeks, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living’s CEO/President, loves to tell the story of the first time Sharon flew in an airplane on a work trip to Washington, D.C. to attend an annual National Council for Independent Living meeting. Any story you tell about Sharon is guaranteed to leave you with a smile. Sharon's motto was, "life is short, eat dessert first"!
Sharon was diagnosed with a life threatening cancer while pregnant with her daughter McKayla. She was determined to be McKayla’s mother and Phil’s wife for as long as she possibly could and broke all odds by living to see her daughter’s 7th birthday.
Among others, Sharon was survived by her husband Phil, daughter McKayla and twin sister Shirley.
