The Mission of Mountain State Centers for Independent Living is to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Mountain State Centers for Independent is a community-based organization providing advocacy, networking, and resources to people with disabilities and their families.
Advocacy is the core of our organization. We believe that by focusing on advocacy and teaching people with disabilities self-advocacy skills, our vision and mission can be achieved. Mountain State Centers for Independent Living staff provide peer support and offer guidance and encouragement to individuals in making appropriate decisions regarding their day-to-day lives.
The Community Resource Advocate (CRA) assists people with disabilities by providing information and resources that empower them to make informed choices regarding their level of independence in their home and communities. Consumer services are flexible to ensure the support provided reflects consumer directed services with an emphasis on full community integration. The CRA provides independent living assessments, intakes, independent living plan development and training as needed with the consumer to assist the consumer in reaching their goals and objectives. The CRA will offer support to both the consumer and their family members with benefits, needs and barrier assessments. This position works directly with the consumer encouraging them both in social development and in improving their level of independence. The CRA provides transition services, navigating people with disabilities from institutional settings into community living, as well as diverting people from having to move into an institutional setting, and assists students transitioning from school to work. The CRA participates in advocacy and community collaboration and outreach.
